A WILL TO SUCCEED SPEECH

Good morning Father and Sisters, good morning teachers and good morning friends. My name is Chinedu Oyekwere and I’m a JSS 3 student. I’m here to speak on “A will to Succeed”.

I’d like to start by defining key terms. What does it mean to have a will? This means to express a desire, consent or willingness on something. To succeed means to achieve an aim or goal. A will to succeed means to express desire, consent or willingness on achieving an aim or goal.

It is important to have a will because:

  1. It assists in achieving set goals.
  2. Our will is what keeps us going through difficult times.
  3. It improves the chances of succeeding in a given task.
  4. An individual’s willingness on a task is what differentiates him or her from people who do the task for ‘doing sake’.
  5. It is blind to failure or obstacles, hence helps in overcoming them.

Let’s take a look at the life of Thomas Edison, the inventor of the first light bulb. In his attempts to do this, he failed multiple times, but what kept him going was his will to succeed and eventually he did.

What are the principles of success? This can be easily memorised as the “Quadruple D’s”.

  1. The first D stands for Desire: This is the hunger within. The eagerness to accomplish a given task.
  2. The second D stands for Diligence: An individual cannot be successful if he or she fails to work hard.
  3. The third D stands for Determination: Let’s use soldier ants as an example. When you see them moving in a line, even if you attempt stamping on them to disrupt their movement, they always get back into formation because they are determined.
  4. The fourth D stands for Discipline: As human beings, we must learn to put personal convenience aside to achieve a task.

Let us all as students of Mater Ecclesiae College begin to have ‘A will to succeed’ and the skies will be our starting point, meaning, we have no limits.

Thank you.
